Most minibus (dolmuş) lines on the peninsula start from Bodrum centre, so getting from Gümüşlük to Gündoğan or from Bitez to Türkbükü often means going back to the centre first. With a rental car, swimming in one bay in the morning and having dinner on another shore in the evening, or driving between your villa, the supermarket and the beach, is entirely up to your own timing. Bodrum Car Rental: Where Do You Collect the Car?

The online booking form has a single point for Bodrum: Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV). The airport lies outside the peninsula, within the boundaries of the Milas district; you are met at the terminal exit according to your landing time, collect the car there and drive to the peninsula yourself. There is no online handover point in Bodrum centre or in the villages of the peninsula. If you would like the car brought to your hotel or to the villa you are renting, send your request to our customer service by WhatsApp or phone before booking, and clarify together whether it is possible and on what terms.

The Peninsula Village by Village: Where to Go in Bodrum

The south coast of the Bodrum Peninsula is known for its beaches, the north coast for its quiet bays and jetties, and the western tip for its sunsets. Knowing this difference when you choose the village to stay in also shapes how you plan your days with the car. The villages below are only a sightseeing guide; driving time changes with the season and the traffic, so check the current route in your map app.

1. Bodrum centre: Bodrum Castle with the Museum of Underwater Archaeology inside, the Ancient Theatre, the remains of the Mausoleum and the marina along Neyzen Tevfik Street; to explore the narrow streets of the bazaar on foot, it is easiest to leave the car in one of the paid car parks nearby.
2. Gümbet and Bitez: Two beaches west of the centre; Gümbet is known for water sports, bars and entertainment venues, while Bitez is known for its calm sea, mandarin orchards and a walking path along the shore.
3. Ortakent and Yahşi: Yahşi, with one of the long beaches of the peninsula, is popular with families; the old stone tower houses inland in Ortakent are also worth seeing.
4. Turgutreis and Akyarlar: Turgutreis on the west coast is lively with its marina and busy local market; the small fishing harbour and coves of Akyarlar to the south offer a calmer day.
5. Gümüşlük: A fishing village built on the remains of the ancient city of Myndos; with fish restaurants on the shore and Rabbit Island opposite, it is one of the favourite sunset spots of the peninsula. Rather than driving down to the waterfront, use the car park at the village entrance.
6. Yalıkavak: This former sponge divers' town in the north-west of the peninsula is known today for its marina where luxury yachts anchor; from the old stone windmills on the hill you can look out over the bay.
7. Gündoğan and Türkbükü: On the north coast, next to Türkbükü, one of the liveliest shores in summer with its wooden jetties reaching into the sea and its beach clubs, Gündoğan is a quieter family bay.
8. Torba and Gölköy: Quiet bays north of the centre; because Torba is close to the main road coming from the airport, it is also a practical place to stay on the night before your return day.

Driving in Bodrum: Peninsula Roads, Parking and Summer Traffic

Practical information that will help you when driving between the bays of the peninsula and looking for parking in the summer crowds:

1. Main roads and village roads: The villages are linked by the main roads that circle the peninsula; the village roads leading down to the bays, however, can be narrow, winding and steep in places. Slow down to make room for oncoming cars, and in a manual car be ready for hill starts.
2. Summer traffic: In July and August traffic slows down, especially in the late afternoon when people return from the beaches and at the entrance to Bodrum centre; starting the day early and planning your route with a map app that shows live traffic saves time.
3. Parking: On busy shores such as Bodrum centre, Yalıkavak and Türkbükü it is hard to find a space at the roadside; paid car parks and the car parks of hotels, villas and beach clubs make things easier.
4. Ferries and islands: Ferries run from Bodrum Port to the Greek island of Kos and, in the summer months, towards Datça. If you are thinking of taking the rental car on a ferry or out of the country, consult our customer service before booking.
5. Kilometres and fuel: The car card shows the total kilometre allowance for the rental period and a "Fair Fuel Policy" note; check these two lines before day trips beyond the peninsula.
6. Returning to the airport: As Milas-Bodrum Airport is outside the peninsula, on the day you return the car set off early, allowing for summer traffic and the security check at the terminal entrance; adjust the fuel level according to the policy written on the card.

Day Trips from Bodrum: Ancient Cities, Lakes and Neighbouring Coasts

Once you leave the peninsula, the ancient cities of Milas, the temples of the Aegean and the green shores of the Gulf of Gökova are places you can reach by car. Some are best as a day trip, others are more enjoyable with an overnight stay; check the current distance and driving time in your map app.

• Milas and Beçin: The castle and madrasas of Beçin, capital of the Menteşe Beylik, together with the stone mansions and carpet tradition of Milas, make a half-day history tour.
• Iasos and Euromos: At Iasos on the shore of the Gulf of Güllük you can see the remains of the theatre and agora, and at Euromos near the village of Selimiye the Temple of Zeus with its columns still standing.
• Lake Bafa and Herakleia: On the shore of the lake at the foot of the Beşparmak Mountains, the village of Kapıkırı, built among the rocks, and the remains of ancient Herakleia promise a quiet day in nature.
• Didim and the Temple of Apollo: After visiting the Temple of Apollo at Didyma, one of the most famous oracle centres of antiquity, you can swim at Altınkum beach.
• Gökova and Akyaka: At Akyaka, at the head of the gulf, the clear water of the Azmak River, a shore surrounded by pine forests and a kitesurfing beach show a different face of the Aegean from the peninsula.
• Muğla and Marmaris: The historic Saburhane houses of Muğla, the provincial capital, and the marina and bays of Marmaris to the south are far from the peninsula, so they are more comfortably explored with an overnight stay.
• Ephesus and Şirince: To the north, the Ancient City of Ephesus near Selçuk, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the hillside village of Şirince can be chosen for a long but full day; you need to set off early.

The table is the result of the 20–27 October 2026 search we made in our booking system on 11 October 2026 with pick-up and return at Milas-Bodrum Airport (BJV); the search repeated for 3–10 November 2026 also showed the same 19 cars. The rows are sorted by seating and luggage capacity, from most to least.

The minimum age and years of licence depend on the car: some cars can be rented at 21 with a licence held for 2 years; in the upper segment the requirement rises to 25–27 years of age and 5–7 years of licence. The requirement for the car you choose is shown on its car card on the booking screen.

A holiday in Bodrum often lasts longer than a week: people spending the season in their summer house, families renting a villa and those working remotely on the peninsula use the car for days on end. Payment, Renting Without a Credit Card and Deposit

When you book online, the payment options are shown on the card of the car you choose; you select the one that suits you before confirming the booking.

If you do not have a credit card or want to pay when you collect the car, make the booking through our customer service by WhatsApp or phone; payment can be arranged by bank transfer, EFT, cash, Wise or Revolut. A cash deposit is accepted — no credit card required.

Returning at a Different Point: Ending the Journey Outside Bodrum

In the booking form you can choose the return point separately from the pick-up point. If you are heading south after Bodrum, Muğla Dalaman Airport is one of the options in the form, and if you are heading north, İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport; more distant points such as Antalya or Istanbul are also in the list.
