For families of Turkish origin living in Germany, the trip to Turkey is often the longest holiday of the year: school holidays, Bayram or annual leave are combined, relatives are visited and a few days are spent on the coast as well. This page brings together the information that applies whichever city in Germany you set off from; for those flying from Berlin, Munich and Frankfurt we also have separate city pages, linked at the end of the page. Our booking system has welcomed more than 50,000 guests so far.

From Germany to Turkey: Which Airport for Your Kind of Trip?

There are flights to Turkey from most of Germany's large airports: direct flights to both Istanbul airports and to large airports such as Antalya, Izmir and Ankara, and seasonal or connecting services to the regional airports. Check the current timetable with your airline.

The kind of trip you are making decides at which airport you collect the car:

All 16 points in the form are on our list of pick-up points.

Booking Checklist When Travelling from Germany

Clarifying these six points before you set off makes the booking easier:

  1. Ticket and arrival time: In the form, the pick-up time is chosen in Turkish time, between 00:00 and 23:30.
  2. Pick-up and return point: If you fly home from another airport, choose the return point separately and ask our customer service about its fee.
  3. Drivers: Decide in advance who will drive the car and the age and years of licence of each driver; consult our customer service about the additional driver conditions.
  4. Car class: Choose according to the number of people and the amount of luggage; the list below shows the cars that stand out for families and luggage.
  5. Payment: If you do not have a credit card, make the booking by WhatsApp or phone; payment can be arranged with Wise and Revolut.
  6. Documents: Carry your driving licence and your ID card or passport in your hand luggage.

German Licence, Turkish Licence and ID: Which Do You Need?

Some of our guests living in Germany hold a German licence, others a Turkish one; our rental conditions cover both. Licences issued in Turkey are valid anyway, and for foreign licences the rule is this: A national licence issued in the Latin alphabet or an international driving permit is accepted. Alongside the licence, an ID card or passport is also required at handover.

The minimum age and years of licence depend on the car: some cars can be rented at 21 with a licence held for 2 years; in the upper segment the requirement rises to 25–27 years of age and 5–7 years of licence. The requirement for the car you choose is shown on its car card on the booking screen.

If you are a dual citizen or hold a Blue Card (Mavi Kart), ask our customer service by WhatsApp or phone before booking which identity document is accepted at handover.

Choosing a Car for Diaspora Families: People, Luggage, Gearbox

In the search for 20–27 October 2026 that we made on 11 October 2026 for Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gokcen, both points listed the same 19 cars; the groups below are taken from that search. On the cards, the models appear with the note "or similar".

  • Large family with children, 9 seats: Peugeot Expert Traveller (Minivan); lowest driver requirement: age 27 and a licence held for 7 years
  • Suitcases and gifts, 5 seats: Ford Courier, Fiat Doblo and Dacia Duster (Compact, Minivan and SUV); lowest driver requirement: age 21 and a licence held for 2 years
  • Economy class for those who prefer an automatic: Opel Corsa, Renault Clio, Citroen C3 and Renault Taliant (Economy); lowest driver requirement: age 21 and a licence held for 3 years

For drivers who prefer an automatic gearbox, the list also shows automatic options in the economy class; for the 9-seat car the requirement is age 27 and 7 years of licence.

Coming from Germany in Your Own Car: Motorway and Bridge Tolls

In the summer months there are also families who set off from Germany in their own car. In that case you need your own HGS account for the toll motorways and bridges in Turkey; in a car you fly in and rent, the crossings are paid from the car's HGS balance.

KGM's rule for foreign-plated vehicles, and how crossings are paid in a rental car:

According to KGM, foreign-plated vehicles using toll motorways and bridges must have an HGS account with at least enough balance to cover the toll. An HGS account can be opened at PTT branches and agents at border gates and inside the country, or at bank branches; unpaid violations must be settled before you leave. Details: KGM – Foreign-plated vehicles.

In a rental car, crossings are deducted from the car's HGS balance; under art. 4.10 of the Rental Conditions, bridge, motorway and HGS/OGS tolls belong to the renter and the remaining balance is refunded at the end of the rental. Current rates are in our article bridge and motorway tolls for 2026.

Summer Leave and Bayram: Long-Term Rental

In Germany, the school holidays start on different dates from one federal state to another, and your travel dates to Turkey change accordingly. If your rental lasts 8–29 days the weekly rate applies, and for 30 days or more the monthly rate; details are on our monthly car rental page.

On a long rental, read the total kilometre allowance and fuel policy lines on the car card; send any questions about these lines to our customer service before booking.

In the weeks of the Feast of Sacrifice and of the Ramadan Feast, the airports get busier; booking early makes it easier to find the car group you want.

One-Way within Turkey: Returning at a Different Airport

If your arrival and departure airports differ, you can choose the return point in the form separately from the pick-up point. In our searches of 11 October 2026, the options with pick-up at Sabiha Gokcen and return at Antalya or Istanbul Airport showed a separate "One-way fee" line on the car cards.

Confirm the fee for returning at a different point with our customer service by WhatsApp or phone before completing the booking.

Paying from Germany: Wise, Revolut, Renting without a Card and the Deposit

When you book online, the payment options are shown on the card of the car you choose; you pick the one that suits you before confirming the booking.

If you have no credit card, make the booking through our customer service by WhatsApp or phone; payment can be arranged by bank transfer, EFT, cash, Wise or Revolut. All conditions for renting without a card are on our car rental without a credit card page.

The deposit amount depends on the car; the amount for the car you choose is shown on its car card on the booking screen.
